I’m not just a poser in Lycra or running tights or such like, and not just trying to show off, that’s not what it’s about for me at all. I wear them because they’re practical, simple as that. They’re comfortable, they move with you, and for things like gardening or getting jobs done, they just work. Over time they’ve become part of what I wear day to day, often out of sports as well in the right setting, because they make life a bit easier. And if I’m honest, I don’t worry any more about what others think.

I'd agree with all of this. Over the years Ive gradually expanded the contexts where I'd wear lycra - in private, then for sports, then for around the house and now just for going to the shops and stuff. Comfortable, warm, looks good (I imagine, don't disillusion me). The only way it's less practical than regular trousers is that so little of it has pockets.
Except. Except for my guilty secret that I sort of do care what others think. At least, I'd love to think they were checking me out.
Just to add: the lycra in my profile photos is mostly not the same lycra I'd wear for running errands, so don't expect to see me in Sainsburys in a tutu
