messages glitch?

For the past week, whenever I log in, it shows '2 new messages' but when I click on it, there's nothing there. I had 2 messages but then after I deleted them, for some reason it never goes back to zero messages.

I had '4 new messages' earlier and now it's gone up to 6 without there actually being any new messages...

Ok this is getting ridiculous, Today alone, it shows I have "9 new messages" but there's nothing there.
