I owe you all a bit of an explanation for the recent changes to our payment options. I'll put together a more detailed post soon, but here's the short version:
Over time, payment providers have introduced stricter requirements, including asking users to verify their identity using government-issued ID during the payment process. That is absolutely not something I'm comfortable requiring from SP members.
Protecting privacy and keeping the platform safe has always been a priority for me. So I decided to move to alternative payment methods that better align with those values.
I hope that gives some context behind the change. And thanks for your understanding!
I understand what you're saying, but my bank has never asked me to do as such. Not all banks in every country are doing that. I would leave it as an option to use a card. You wouldn't be required to use a card but at least you would have the option.
You're right that banks themselves don't ask for this.
The difference here is that payments don't go directly bank-to-bank, but through specialised payment processors that sit in between.
A simple way to think about it: you can’t just send money to someone directly with your credit card the same way you can with a bank transfer. there's always a processor involved in between. And those processors are the ones setting these rules and requirements.
if have more questions or suggestions you can always DM about it.
So how do we sign up if you don't take credit card anymore? Never mind, I figured it out. It's your site and you can run how you like, but you just lost my membership.
Okay yall, the replies and questions seem to repeat themselves.
I'm gonna lock this thread until I bring out the update post about the payment method change.
