I hand wash my spandex and anything else delicate in Woolite and hang it up in the shower.

Same. I use a gentle soap and cool water. I dry items flat on a beach towel when necessary, or leave them hanging over the shower curtain rod. Never a problem. Under no circumstances would I ever put spandex in the dryer.
