Speedo-friendly travel destinations

I want to preface this by saying I know I can wear speedos wherever I want and I often do! However, maybe I’m just not experienced enough or confident enough yet but I don’t like to be the only person on a beach or by the pool in a speedo. In that regard, where are some great travel destinations where speedos are much more common and I won’t feel out of place!

Gran Canaria is a great spot for that - Maspalomas.  Also, Sitges in Spain! Both very gay friendly areas where most people will be in speedos! 

All gay beaches (at least in europe) For example at garda lake or Torre del Lago

I wear speedos, and thin-strap speedos all the time at the beach. but I'm very used to it. I can understand that someone who hasn't worn them all year round is a bit hesitant. from my experience, all of europe is speedo friendly

Hollywood (AKA Osterman) Beach, Chicago. It’s a gay beach and there’s an unspoken contest for who can wear the sluttiest swimwear.

Italy is the friendliest in this regard in my opinion, as a lot of men (including straight men) wear them, just as they wear a lot of briefs. And then of course there is no problem in Spain, which is generally more open to things.

In the whole of France they have a law for public swimming pools that men can only wear speedos for swimming, if you wear baggy swim wear they throw you out. 

I’m just wondering if a thong would be out of place at these beaches 

mrever_ready dudes are in thongs everywhere at Hollywood beach in Chicago.  Hell, even I finally bought one to wear there and I don’t normally wear them.

I even wear thongs at Sitges Beach, in Spain. Not only Balmins, but its main one and other more familiar, with children around. Never had any problem 

here in Malta its fine to wear speedos, high chances of being the only one wearing them but there are days when you can spot some. This year i was even wearing thong swimwear on some beaches without issues

In nyc, not so much at the regular beaches, but certainly at the various gay beaches at Fire Island, Jacob Riis Park, Jones Beach, Gunnison/Sandy Hook (NJ). And probably some rooftop pool parties, and during Pride, etc. 

There are also some gay camping across the country where spandex or clothing optional is fine. The Woods in Pennsylvania is one. And of course gay cruises are a Mecca for spandex wear too. 

South Africa is also Speedo friendly

Let me weigh in from the US.  I started wearing Speedos when I moved to Miami years ago. It was the norm down there. I'm now in San Francisco and most of the men wear board shorts. (ugh) I go to the gay nude beach at the base of the Golden Gate Bridge where everyone is either nude or in Speedos. Click on the photo to see the full image. I've found that the people at gay nude beaches are very open to Speedos. I'm heading down to Key West next week and will pack a lot of Speedos. The Island House is a clothing optional gay resort but about half the men are in Speedos. 

I belong to a health club in The Woodlands, TX (not gay).  Several of the swimmers wear bikinis.  I wear bikinis by Joe Snyder, Cut 4 men and koala.  They are smaller than Speedos.  There are also a few thong wearers.  I think I will try one of my thongs soon.  Men in bikinis is becoming more acceptable.
