Thin shiny spandex

Why is it that all the new shiny spandex attire is very thin see-through material? Brands like amorosy and leohex are cheap knock offs of early shiny spandex. I'm thankful that it even exists, but I long for the days that thicker material is used for leggings, unitards, leotards etc. If you were alive in the 80's you probably know what I am talking about. Is it price, environmentality, lack of demand? Who remembers brands like Flexatard, The Body Co, Rainbeau, or even Danskin. These fabrics were completely opaque, far more durable, and even more shiny and slippery. What is going on with today's spandex?

Not just Disco Jeans, but Fredricks of Hollywood, LeGambi were great brands. Also, original American Apparel had great nice feeling spandex.

If I had to venture a guess, it was probably costly to make and was phased out of production when cheaper fabrics that were as durable and stretchy came on the market. That's why everything is polyester now instead of the heavenly nylon/spandex blend of yesteryear.
