I initiated two guys into the world of spandex/lycra. The first one was a friend who came over once and I was wearing one of my singlets, he found it hot and asked if he could try one on. He did and let’s just say we enjoyed it. Second guy was a hookup through an app and I just took the gear with me and laid it on his bed, he wanted to try everything on and was super into it. I think what worked with me is I didn’t make it a must have during meets but proposed it to add a bit of kink.

Sadly, I've never had much success with that. It seems like having a fet for spandex is almost like a DNA thing - it's either there or it's not, and from my own experience and talking to guys and reading the "Spandex Beginnings" in guy's profiles on here, we seem to discover it pretty young. Something usually triggers it early, like when we start wearing it for a sport, or we see someone at home or sometimes just someone random wearing it. Even beyond trying to convert someone to wearing it, my best case is usually that they like how I look in something spandex that I'm wearing, but if playing starts, they want it off me ASAP. The garment itself does absolutely nothing for them. No different than a typical guy who sees a woman in leggings and a sports bra and thinks "OMG she looks hot", but if anything goes down, they want her naked and in bed ASAP. They don't give a fuck about what she's wearing.

I had the great luck of finding my perfect husband. When I got to know him he didn't really know much about lycra/spandex or mens thongs.
But now he really enjoys the feeling of cycling clothes, not just for cycling, he occasionally wears thongs and we buy him more and more of the lovely tight stuff :-)

Most reactions I get from gays when I am in spandex is pure horror. For some reason, they would never think of wearing it at least in public… Maybe is fear of looking gay? Well, for that, all my friends I came out to, all of them had seen me wear spandex all the time, were absolutely surprised to know I’m gay.
Some of my lovers complimented me for being hot, but most did not care, and the most persistent one (we’ve been on and off for almost 35 years) is pissed-off mightily whenever I wear spandex (which is why I make a point of wearing only spandex when we see each other). Funniest thing is when his mother visited, she noticed I like spandex, so the next time, she bought me this pair of bike shorts (and another that’s blue), so my on/off boyfriend can’t bitch when I wear them…
Of all the guys I picked up, perhaps ten found me hot because of my spandex. The first guy I picked up who was wearing spandex was just not into it; it so happened that he was on his bike when I picked him up and headed for the bushes…
Some of the guys I picked up did not mind trying it, but besides saying "holy shit, do I look hot!", none ever got on the spandex boat.
As for general public reaction, is total disinterest, except for black people, both men and women who very often have a long, hard look (I love blacks). Oh and also that Asian woman, one day, on the street, could not stop looking at my bulge so intently that she ran into a lamp post…
